"Dude Food" Father's Day Gift Basket
This year we have a great selection of gift baskets for Father’s Day. "Dude Food" Father's Day Gift Basket - a fun choice!

The history of Father’s Day is a nice little story, according to www.TheHolidaySpot.com, here is how it goes:
“Father’s Day is celebrated popularly on 3rd Sunday in June in many parts of the world. The idea for creating a day for children to honor their fathers began in Spokane, Washington. A woman by the name of Sonora Smart Dodd thought of the idea for Father’s Day while listening to a Mother’s Day sermon in 1909. Having been raised by her father, Henry Jackson Smart, after her mother died, Sonora wanted her father to know how special he was to her. It was her father that made all the parental sacrifices and was, in the eyes of his daughter, a courageous, selfless, and loving man. Sonora’s father was born in June, so she chose to hold the first Father’s Day celebration in Spokane, Washington on the 19th of June, 1910.
In 1924 President Calvin Coolidge proclaimed the third Sunday in June as Father’s Day. President Nixon, in 1972, established a permanent national observance of Father’s Day to be held on the third Sunday of June. So Father’s Day was born as a token of love and gratitude that a daughter cherishes for her beloved father. “

We have 9 coffee and tea gift baskets to choose from and we are getting ready to add 2 more. These have always been very popular, in particular the Java Junkies - the small is shown above and it also comes in large (our biggest seller in this line): Java Junky Coffee Gift Basket. The small includes a contemporary design over-sized coffee mug. Coffee mugs are also included in the Chocolate Cafe Coffee Gift Basket, and I love these. They have vintage designs of bon bons and chocolates that are really terrific - 2 of them are included in this gift. I found these last year at the International Gift Show in New York City.

Birthday Gift Baskets
I love birthdays. Not just my own (which I’m growing a bit less fond of every year), but friends and family. Its just plain fun to spoil someone a bit on their special day. We carry a very festive line of Birthday Gift Baskets to help you with the spoiling. The one shown above, “Surprise Party” is filled with birthday themed confections (the birthday cake cookie is terrific). "The Grilling Gourmand" - a gourmet gift basket with a BBQ flair!
It is really hard to believe that Summer is just around the corner, but our 90 degree temperatures remind me that is so! I’ve lived in Washington for over 20 years and I don’t ever, ever remember seeing the low 90s in April. Fortunately it didn’t come with the typical humidity so it wasn’t uncomfortable, just a bit of a shock to our systems. The first day of Summer this year will be Sunday June 21st - the same day as Father’s Day (we will, by the way be putting our selection of gift baskets for Father’s Day out very soon so that you can shop early with our early bird discounts).
To herald in the season, we have several gourmet gift baskets inspired by Summer. Soon to be featured on our home page, the Grilling Gourmand (above) is a beautiful gift that includes a 5 piece set of barbecue utensils with cherry handles - really nice looking. It is also filled with marinades and sauces for the grill master of the house (if that is a dad in your house, this would make a very nice father’s day gift).For the gardener in the family, we have a gift basket made to order. It includes a spade and trowel, garden gloves, flower and vegetable seed packets and a gardener’s knee pad.
Another gardeners gift basket includes a wonderful little book called “The Gardeners Guide to Life” along with other gourmet and gardening treats. We will also be adding a few more summer gift baskets this year, but they are still on the design table for now. I’m thinking about a pool theme and a picnic basket - what do you think?

Our "Bay Tradition" Gift Basket includes She Crab Soup with 2 navy soup bowls
I thought I would share another recipe from the Chesapeake Bay area.
This delectable She Crab Soup is made from the sweet, delicate meat of the she crab. A bit of roe adds richness and flavor. Its elegant bisque-like creaminess will delight your senses.

cups fish stock (a flavorful vegetable or chicken stock may be substituted for the fish stock if necessary) |

cups heavy cream |

teaspoon salt |

teaspoon freshly ground pepper |

teaspoon Worcestershire Sauce |
| 1 |
dash Tabasco Sauce (optional) |

cup dry sherry |

lemon freshly squeezed |
Purchase one dozen female crabs already steamed or buy them live and steam them yourself. Pick the crabs for all their meat and reserve the orange roe. In a sauté pan, melt 4 tablespoons butter and sauté the onion and shallots until just tender.
Whisk in the flour and cook over medium heat for 2 minutes while stirring, taking care not to brown the flour mixture. Slowly whisk in the heavy cream and stock. Add in the salt, pepper, Worcestershire Sauce and Tabasco (if using). Cook on medium until the soup thickens, about 15 - 20 minutes, stirring frequently.
While you are thickening the soup, melt 4 tablespoons of butter in a sauté pan and toss the crabmeat and roe until heated through, 3-4 minutes. Once the soup has thickened add the crabmeat mixture and stir. Add the sherry and lemon juice and simmer for several minutes until heated through.
Serve with a light salad of mixed greens and French bread.
